I would have used Jay Z’s line from PSA - “Allow me to reintroduce myself”, but who knows if these recent allegations are true. And I honestly would rather my name and bio have you off singing “What’s My Age Again” by Blink-182 instead.
Officially, Hi, welcome to Massage Is Therapy For Me! My name is Frank Gioeli. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in Westfield, New Jersey. I am from Staten Island, New York, currently living there now with my absolute ANGEL of a wife, Molly. I absolutely love what I do. I truly think massage is a great way to help heal your own body, calm the complexities in your mind, and warm your soul. I have been licensed since 2019. I graduated from THE best massage school in New Jersey, Therapeutic Massage & Training Center. I may be a little biased since I am now their Assistant Director.
HOWEVER. They truly make sure their graduates aren’t just rubbing lotion and oil on the body but really instilling a foundation of healing the body on your table with proven techniques and help get them out of pain!
So, you may be curious, since this is an intro article about me and the business, how I got into this field?
Well, have you ever seen the movie, A Bronx Tale? If you haven’t, please stop what you are doing and spend a few hours watching that. There is a scene where Sonny and C are talking about women, and finding true love:
“You gotta do what your heart tells you to do. Let me tell you somethin’ right now. You’re only allowed three great women in your lifetime. They come along like the great fighters, every ten years. Rocky Marciano. Sugar Ray Robinson. Joe Louis. Sometimes you get ’em all at once. Me? I had my three when I was 16. That happens”
So, I didn’t have all three of my loves when I was 16, but I had my first true love, Soccer, at age 3.
Then I met my now wife Molly, in May of 2019.
I believe this business is the third love in my life. I technically started school in 2018 but we can agree to disagree on the order.
I can truly say Soccer, Molly and Massage, not in that order obviously, Molly is always #1 of course (Brownie points).
One day in 2018, when playing in a men’s league soccer game, I pulled my hamstring. I came home to ask my sister, Christina, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, to help me out. I came up my stairs to see she was working on my mother because her back hurt! As she worked on my mom, I gave my sister a bit of a back massage and she goes " Wow you are really good at this". To which I replied, "Yeah if only I could do that for a living and work with athletes"... to which she responded "You can!"
That next day, on my drive to work, I listened to a podcast that had a professional baseball player talking about how his team's LMT had helped extend his career along with other modalities and recovery plans involved. I took that as a sign and did some research on the industry, financial trends, and if it is something I could really do.
I applied to two schools and visited both and the rest is history.
Since I got licensed, I have continued to focus on providing therapy to all my clients. I truly do feel better myself as well as feel that I have a sense of purpose when people trust me and leave feeling better than they felt walking in.
I love a challenge and also understand that this is massage, not magic. I do find myself often joking that if I was a magician, I’d magically make the pain go away and I’d be a billionaire.
Haven’t figured out the slight of hand there yet.
The goal of my business is to help realign the body on my table, help calm any mental dilemmas, and promote a healing that the soul feels thankful for. I always love to educate people, not just clients, on the benefits of massage therapy and how effective it can be to make you better in all facets of your life.
If you are not in pain, you are typically not as emotionally drained too.
Just think about it, when you leave a massage session feeling all happy and care free, imagine the whole world felt like that all the time. Most of the problems in this world would no longer be an issue.
If more people in this world received consistent daily massages, more people would be happier, healthier, and living beautiful, pain free lives.
That is my goal. To promote healing to others who can help heal those around them.
The Future of Massage Is Therapy For Me
So what is the future of this business? Well, the goal is to continue to grow a massage business treating every client like it is going to be their best massage every session. It is to provide a safe, comfortable, private, healing environment for my clients and ensure they never feel like their dollar was not valued. It is to provide pain relief whether it be mental, physical or emotional.
I want to focus on growing partnerships with other businesses that complement mine. I believe doing this will make every dollar spent on a massage here go further for all customers.
The business will also be focusing on a consulting and coaching program for local massage therapists to help grow their business. I have been lucky enough to make many business mistakes and learn from them in this business. So, I plan on helping others know how to start a business, run a business and grow a business.
And I love to do it.
Lastly, I want to continue writing this blog, once a week. I’d like to also develop some sort of a social media presence but that takes time, consistency and talent I have not found yet in me but maybe this will help!
Thanks for reading. Hope this made you laugh and learn a little more about me and this business
