Massage Is Therapy For Every Body—Yes, Even You!

Updated: Jul 22

Let’s just get one thing straight right out of the gate: massage is not just for rich ladies named Karen who sip cucumber water and float around spas like swans on a pond.

Massage is therapy.Massage is healing.Massage is therapeutic healing for everyone—and yes, that includes you too.

First, Let’s Talk Safety.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), I’ve learned that healing starts with safety. Clients need to feel safe, protected, and in control of their session. My job is not just to perform a few Swedish strokes and call it a day. My job is to create an environment where your nervous system finally sighs in relief and says, “Okay. We’re good here.”

That safety comes from professionalism. It comes from ethics. And yeah, it comes from more than a few awkward classes early on where I learned how to properly drape a client without making anyone feel like they accidentally signed up for a toga party.

Clients are always in control of a session. You are never powerless. You are never being “worked on.” You are being cared for. You get to say what hurts, what helps, what feels weird, and what you need to feel safe. We listen, adjust, and care. That’s the gig.

“But Isn’t Massage Just for Rich People or Celebs?”

Nope. That’s an old myth, like gluten-free cupcakes being healthy (they’re still cupcakes, Janet).

Let’s break down the truth:

Teenagers (with parent/guardian permission and in the room when under 18)

Anxiety. Sports injuries. Growing pains. Social pressure. School stress. It’s a rough ride these days, and massage helps teens regulate emotions, reduce stress, and even sleep better (which, let’s be honest, might also make parenting them a bit more bearable).

Men

Hello fellow men. We’re taught to “suck it up,” “walk it off,” and “don’t cry during John Wick.” But massage isn’t about being weak—it’s about being wise enough to heal. I’ve massaged construction workers, firefighters, doctors, accountants, and yes—fellow massage therapists. Tension doesn’t discriminate. Neither should healing.

Women

From postpartum recovery to hormonal balance to just a moment of peace from the chaos of multitasking life, massage can be deeply nourishing. And don’t worry, ladies—I know the difference between “my neck hurts” and “I’m just here to lie in silence and pretend the world doesn’t exist for 60 minutes.” I’ve got you.

LGBTQ+

You deserve to feel safe in your body and respected on the table. Massage should never be a source of fear or discomfort. I’m here to support your healing process without assumptions or judgment. Everyone’s nervous system needs love—regardless of gender identity or who they crush on.

Financially Underprivileged

Massage should not be a luxury reserved for the wealthy. Healing should be accessible, period. Your income level shouldn’t determine your access to a regulated nervous system and a body that doesn’t feel like it’s been in a wrestling match with gravity.

All Backgrounds

Black, white, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, Indigenous—massage is a universal human right (okay, maybe not officially, but it should be). Pain doesn’t discriminate. Neither does healing. Neither do I.

The Big Secret: I Don’t Heal You.

Here’s the truth that gets whispered in massage school between anatomy quizzes and awkward practice sessions:

I don’t heal you.You heal you.

I’m just the hands.Hands guided by technique, grounded in training, and inspired by the teachers, mentors, and wise bodyworkers who came before me.

All I do is show up with intention. Your body does the rest.

Whether you're holding trauma in your shoulders, grief in your hips, or stress in your low back (that laptop position is criminal), massage gives your body the space to release. To breathe. To remember.

Final Thoughts (and Slightly Awkward Hug Energy)

Massage is therapy. It’s science and art. It’s ancient and modern. It’s a soft place to land when the world is loud and hard.

No matter your gender, background, income, identity, or Spotify playlist preference (even if it’s only 90s boy bands—I won’t judge), massage is for you.

So book the session. You’re not “too tense,” “too broke,” or “too whatever” to deserve care. We’re all just humans trying to feel a little less pain in a world that’s been pretty rough on us lately.

And if you walk out of my treatment room feeling a little more alive, a little more seen, and a little more like yourself again—well, that’s the real win.

Now go breathe, and drink some water.  And maybe stretch. But mostly breathe.
